IN CHARACTER
Name: Vision
Canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Canon Point: Post-Captain America: Civil War
Age: Roughly 1 year old
Personality:

Vision is an amalgamation. He is part Ultron, and part JARVIS, and he shares traits with both of them. But mostly, he is himself. Something entirely other than what either Ultron or Tony Stark could have imagined, and something he is still in the process of trying to understand. Vision shares much of Ultron's big-picture ideas. He sees the human race as limited and finite, but unlike Ultron, he does not see that as reason to destroy them. It is clear when he first meets the avengers that he does not think of himself as inherently better, as the next evolutionary step forward. He respects them, and works to gain their trust. He likes humans, for all their failings.
Vision: Yes. But a thing isn't beautiful because it lasts.

Vision is also more quintessentially human than one would expect him to be, given his origins. He has genuine compassion for others, and strives to be a part of the Avengers, like any other member of the team. In Civil War we see him wearing clothing which does not appear to have been synthesized by him: sweaters and collared shirts and pressed slacks. He works to cheer up Wanda after the incident in Wakanda by cooking her food, even though he has never eaten. He treats the others as his equals, participating in their discussions without dominating them, and respecting the opinions of those he does not agree with. He genuinely cares about the well being of his friends--particularly Wanda Maximoff.

Perhaps the most human thing about Vision are his limitations, and the fact that he is not always aware of them. His relationship with Wanda, although it helps him to grow in his capacity for friendship, creates blind spots that he believed himself incapable of. His desire to see the best in Wanda prevents him from predicting that she will turn against him during Civil War. In rushing to save her during a later battle, he mistimes an attack and nearly kills a member of his own team.
Vision: I became distracted.
Tony: I didn't know that was possible.
Vision: Neither did I.
Maybe the most revealing moment regarding Vision's personality is when he talks about the Mind Stone. The gem in his forehead which helped give him life, and grants him much of his power. He admits he doesn't know what the gem truly is, what it is capable of, and what carrying it with him will mean for the future. But he says he isn't afraid of it. He simply wants to learn more about it, as a way of learning about himself, and as a way of gaining control over this powerful thing that has been thrust upon him. Vision's desire to learn about everything around him is essential to what makes him who he is. He is always working to understand people better, to have the best view of a situation, and to do what is right with the knowledge he gains.
Finally, it is important to note that Vision is worthy. Just saying.

Contracts:
Vision's logical side would be greatly concerned by his sudden arrival on the ship, and he would politely but firmly demand answers from the first people he meets. Being presented with a contract would be disconcerting for the first microsecond, but he would sign it after his questions about the Ingress are answered. Ultimately, it would be his curiosity that would win out in this situation. He has barely been alive a year and now he is being given a chance to explore a part of space he has never seen, and meet new types of beings he would never have encountered otherwise. F would have no reason to disbelieve the captains either, and he has heard of stranger things than malfunctioning portals through space, so he would consider that he has no other option than to sign and become part of the crew. There is nothing else he can do about his present situation, so he may as well make the best of it.
Abilities/Skills:
Material Creation: Vision was given life by the Mind Stone embedded in his forehead. Using it's power he is able to synthesize material, as he does with his clothing and cape when he is first created.
Energy Beam: He is also able to fire an energy beam from The Mind Stone that can destroy objects and cut through metal.
Physical Property Manipulation: Vision is able to play with his own density and mass, allowing him to phase in and out of physical existence-- meaning he can pass through objects at will. He also uses this ability to float above the ground and approximate flying.
Super Strength: Vision has heightened strength and physical durability, owing most likely to the fact that he is made partially of Vibranium, as well as to the Mind Stone.
Computer Manipulation: Vision is able to hack into computer systems and manipulate their processes, as he does he burns Ultron's program out of the internet in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

[His first address to the ship. Most people don't appear to take them very seriously, from what he's seen. But he has learned that first impressions are important. They can determine how others will see him, regardless of further interaction. He holds the device at arm's length so that anyone watching can see his face. ]
Hello. I apologize for interrupting your daily routines, but I thought I should take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Vision. At least, that is what I go by.
[He pauses, takes a moment to smile in a way that humans find genuine. He is friendly. It is important he makes that clear. Although, it is always possible that some of the beings aboard do not read facial expressions the way that humans do... A silent second goes by as he loses himself in the ramifications before he recalls what he is supposed to be doing.]
Anyway. I am fascinated by the workings of this ship, and especially the thing you call The Ingress. I've never personally seen anything like it. I was wondering if anyone familiar with this place would be willing to show me around. I promise to be good company.
[Another smile, just for a second before he rethinks it. He clears his throat.]
Please reach out to me, if you're interested. Thank you.
